Not many cities can be decent rivals to Vienna in terms of cultural life. It is one of most celebrated theatre cities, a place of pilgrimage for opera lovers, who flock there to classic, yet not less enchanting performances based on the work of genuine Viennese masters.
In 1998 was celebrated the 500th anniversary of Vienna Boys Choir. It was previously known as Royal Court Boys Choir and developed under the patronage of Royal Private School. It got highest scores in Europe in terms of vocal techniques, but with the collapse of the monarchy declined. It was reopened in 1924 and since then recovered its top positions. Performances in Royal Court Chapel are not to be missed.
The "Austrian Dinner Show Ensemble" consists of highly talented musicians, excellent vocal soloists and spirited dancers, who showcase traditional costumes of the regions they represent.
The Vienna Mozart Orchestra was founded in 1986, inviting musicians from the best orchestras and chamber ensembles. The concerts take place in the monastery of the "German Teutonic Order" where composer lived and worked in 1781.
The Vienna Kursalon, home of the Strauss Salonorchestra, founded in 1994, is one of the most beautiful concert venues in Italian Renaissance style. The repertoire of the orchestra includes works of Strauss, Lanner, Ziehrer, as well as Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and traditional "Schrammeln" and Salonmusik.
Opera performances, spanning classic art, have nevertheless much to surprise. The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart receioved new, modern, yet genuinely Viennese interpretation by Leopold Hager, who staged it in Volksoper. Vienna Walzer Concerts feature most famous waltzes, polkas and marches by Johann Strauss.
