City sights

Vienna is a real treasure for architecture admirers, where everything from Gothic cathedrals to exuberant Baroque edifices and experimental modern projects is displayed in perfect harmony.

Schonbrunn Palace, designed as summer residence of the Habsburg rulers, is rated among the top sights in Vienna as an outstanding architectural and gardening complex. It is included in the UNESCO's world heritage list. Schonbrunn Zoo, built in 1760, for royal family, is the oldest and the only baroque zoo in the world. It both creates natural environments for animals, using the latest technologies, and highlight the authentic architecture.

Hofburg castle, originated from medieval building in which only chapel reminds of the past, was completely redesigned on commission of Habsburg Dynasty and converted into one of the most impressive residences. The complex combines elements of all styles from Gothic to art nouveau. It is the home of the "Österreichische Nationalbibliothek" (National Library), the "Schatzkammer" (Imperial Treasury), the Collection of Musical Instruments, the Collection of Weapons, the "Museum für Völkerkunde" (Museum of Ethnography).

St. Stephen's Cathedral was built in 1147 and for centuries was the spiritual heart of Vienna. It is a magnificent Gothic edifice with few counterparts in terms of grandeur and sophistication. It contains many art treasures and royal burials.

 The Spanish Riding, School, the institution of the kind, founded in 1572, is the last school where classic dressage is used. The riders train the horses and perform in the Winter Riding School in the Vienna Hofburg (Imperial Palace).

Ring Boulevard is a magnificent 4 km road, built to commemorate the glory of the royal family. It abounds in breathtaking monuments, facades of numerous palaces create unique ceremonial setting. The street is considered among the most beautiful in the world. 

Belvedere Palace, enclosed by a splendid park, is now converted into extensive museum complex, showcasing Austrian art from baroque to Modernism and the so-called Secession movement (Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele).
