Classical music to great extent defined the image of Viennese cultural life. It may be the city's brand name, but actually there is much to be seen for eager clubbers. In the night the city sparkles with brilliant light of bars and clubs. The area around Rabensteig, Seitenstettegasse and Ruprectsplatz is known as Bermuda Triangle, full of late-night bars and clubs, some with live music. Lerchenfelder Gurtel, just two stops from on the U-bahn from Westbahnhof is another party-goers' haunt.
Live music is played all over the city, the most popular jazz and rock venues are Chelsea and Rhiz. The cinemas show mainly Hollywood productions dubbed in German, with few exceptions. Viennale, the annual film festival, shows local productions as well as international ones. For arthouse cinema, Votiv or Filmcasino feature many independent pictures.
Rhiz Bar Modern, multicultural, cosmopolitan, and free of any hints of Habsburg bourgeois nostalgia, is extravagantly located in the vaulted, century-old niches of the U6 subway line. Loos American Bar was designed by noteworthy architect Adolph Loos in 1908. It is a very dark, mysteriously decorated and very intriguing place. Barfly's club is a sophisticated urban cocktail bar with avant-garde interior. Titanic is an established dance club. Queen Anne is elite, fashionable club, which attracted such celebrities as David Bowie, Gunther Sachs, Deep Purple.
P1 Discothek is the leading disco of Vienna, hosting up to 2,000 guests. Tunnel is the dancing club and live music venue, characterized by fusion of many styles. Jazzland is the city's most celebrated jazz venue. Onyx Bar, located at the sixth floor of the city's most controversial building, Haas Haus, is an appealing upscale club with young and chic crowd.
Flex in the last several years came from underground to the position of one of the Europe's leading clubs. It has really good music. Planter's Club is a beautifully furnished cocktail bar with posh decadent interior. Maria's Cantina offers hot salsa rhythms and inventive Caribbean-flavoured cocktails.
