The city is divided into two parts by Danube and its branch, New Danube (Neue Donau), twelve bridges spanning them. The city has a developed public transportation network, including all kinds of public transport. Even during off-peak hours the transport runs frequently. Tickets are valid for all kinds of transport, there are also daily, monthly or yearly cards.
The city's tram network is the third largest in the world, consisting of more than 30 tram routes. It connects suburbs and city center, as 53% of citizens commute to work by public transport. Trams run underground in the busiest parts of the city, the interval is no more than 5-10 minutes.
The city has several train stations, which form the beginning of the main train lines. Wien Franz-Josefs Bahnhof, the starting point of the Franz Josef Railway, Woien Westbahnhof ( Western Railway), Wien Sudbahnhof (Southern and Eastern Railway). There are numerous smaller stations, which are used by local trains. City Airport Train (CAT) provides every half-hour shuttle to the airport with non-stop trip lasting for only 16 minutes.
Underground lines cover all main locations of the city and transport great amount of passengers. There are several systems. Vienna S-Bahn has many lines running in the city and beyond it in remote suburbs and nearby towns. Vienna U-Bahn has five lines operating within the city.
650 bus lines constitute a part of national network. Buses cover the areas which are not served by tram or metro. Bus connection between the nearby cities is also well developed. Night buses operate every half an hour when trams and metro stop running.
